What is STEM education and why is it important?

STEM is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Another variation adds in Art, making the acronym STEAM. There are many schools and other places that offer STEM education, which is basically a more focused approach to these particular topics/fields.

Giving kids more focused learning opportunities within these specific areas can help them grow significantly and could one day benefit the world we live in! Kids grow up to be adults that give back to society (at least that is our greatest hope, right?!).

We want to give them the right tools to become all they can be. There are many jobs that relate in some way to science, technology, engineering, and math. Sounds like an important thing for kids to learn!

What are the benefits of STEM education?

Creativity is one of the first things that comes to mind. It plays a big role in STEM related activities and jobs. The kids and adults involved in STEM activities are often among those who “think outside the box.” These activities and jobs give a lot of room for creativity to grow.

There is more than one way to solve a problem and it is likely they will find that way! Problem-solving is another great skill that kids can gain through STEM education.

It’s a place to share new ideas and create new things! Inventors can be found in all kinds of fields, sometimes they just need to have the right space and education to create.

We’ve only listed a few, but there are many benefits to STEM education!

What are some examples of STEM jobs?

They are all around us! We benefit daily from the work of the great minds that are currently in the positions having to do with STEM such as a chemist, software developer, civil engineer, and mathematician. What do they have to do with us? Quite a bit!

  • We enjoy having the tiny parts of our products work well together. (thanks chemists!)
  • We use our computer and phone programs and apps every day. (thanks software developers!)
  • We enjoy driving on well-designed roads. (thanks civil engineers!)
  • We benefit from people who study data and find solutions so we can use our banks regularly. (thanks mathematicians!)

  1. How cool!! My son is actually off school now due to what’s going on in the world with Covid-19. I have been searching high and low for educational resources, and not once did I come across or think that I could find a subscription box. I like the look of the  Green Kids Craft the perfect age and resources for him as he loves puzzles too. I have not had experience with subscription education boxes but I would give this a go, and think that this is perfect information and great timing with the world’s events. Parents really should consider this. the Green Kids Craft looks like value for money, and a good all round box to try.  Thanks!

  3. Awesome learning pages here. I taught children with learning challenges for five years. These types of projects help to develop logical processes involved in problem concept and solving skills. The links and companies there are great. Especially good for mom teaching children at home. Very good. CQ
